Allan Roeher

Allan Roeher is a fourth year film student from the University of Regina that grew up in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan. “I went into this program because it was the only thing I wanted to do. I always thought business-something and I ultimately chose film.” His learning doesn’t stop with the completion of this degree. “I am also doing a business diploma and I am leaning towards a career in producing and editing. It depends on what opportunities come up.”

“I still have a year and a half of school with this business diploma. My plans were to stay here and work but I may end up having to move, which I don’t want to do because I want to stay and start my career in Saskatchewan. After working with the local crew you can tell there is a great sense of community here. The crew know each other and work really well together. In bigger centres you are always competing with other creative people. I would rather work in a smaller centre that makes great content than a larger centre where your work doesn’t get recognized.”

His career path also affects his family. “My family is hoping that something will change. I am their son and they definitely want me to stay in Saskatchewan.”

“My ideal for the future? Something reinstated that benefits the whole industry that allows me to stay and produce and contribute to the province.”
